The VA Boston Healthcare System (VABHS), in association with the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), is seeking a full-time, Board Certified Anesthesiologist with additional subspecialty qualification and training in Regional Anesthesia and/or Acute Pain Medicine to serve as the Director of Acute Pain Medicine. VABHS is the principal tertiary referral center for veterans throughout New England and maintains major affiliations with Harvard Medical School (HMS) and Boston University School of Medicine (BUSM); the Anesthesiology, Critical Care and Pain Medicine Service is strongly affiliated with MGH.
The incumbent will be responsible for direct patient care in and outside the operating rooms as well as the creation and management of an Acute Pain Service at the West Roxbury campus. Responsibilities for the position include the supervision of acute pain staff, residents, fellows and students from HMS and BUSM. The incumbent will be expected to develop and improve processes of inpatient care and coordination with other physicians, pain providers, nurses and primary care providers, participate in pain committees, and collaborate with the VA New England Healthcare System (VISN1) on the development of acute pain treatment as well as perioperative care policies. A strong research interest and research experience is highly desirable.
The ideal candidate should be subspecialty/fellowship trained and experienced in regional anesthesia and/or acute medicine. Opportunities are available for pursuing basic, translational, and health services research for qualified candidates. Faculty appointment at HMS will be commensurate with academic credentials.
